Project 64 is much more than just a drawing program. Children learn proper pencil grip and greatly develop their fine motor skills. In Project 64 we discuss the multitude of colors found in a box of 64 crayons, learning so much more than just our basic colors. Project 64 also offers children a solid foundation in reading and writing skills. Children in Kindergarten learn to read and write stories beginning with pictures. They gain the confidence they need to create well illustrated drawings to begin the process of writing their very own stories. In Project 64 we label our pictures with beginning letter sounds, then move onto sounding out the whole word, and eventually write sentences to accompany our illustrations, which leads to some amazing stories. Thanks to Project 64 children can become masters of their very own literary works of art!
The Bulldozer & The Ballerina
In this Project 64 lesson, the class enjoyed drawing something for both the boys and the girls! We used our shading and coloring skills to draw these magnificent works of art. We re-visited the skill of drawing people as we made an elegant ballerina. Then we pulled out our rulers and drew this complicated yet amazing piece of machinery, the bulldozer! We then wrote a sentence using our sight words to go along with our bulldozer. We wrote "This is Bob's Bulldozer!"

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
March 2nd was Dr. Seuss' 110th birthday! We decided to celebrate his birthday by drawing a yummy cupcake! We used our rulers to draw the wrapper of the cupcake and then used the colors from Dr. Seuss' most famous book The Cat in the Hat. We used sky blue to color the wrapper and wild strawberry to draw sprinkles. Then we added red stripes to the candle to make it look like the Cat in the Hat's tall hat! We then used our awesome pencil grip to write the words "Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!" To finish it off, we used an AB pattern to color over the words in blue and red!

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream!
Kindergarten had so much fun learning how to draw an ice cream cone and popsicles. We used our Project 64 rulers to make the contour lines of the cone. Then we slanted our rulers on a diagonal to make the waffle design on our cone. We practiced symmetry as we drew the big scoop of ice cream, topped with a cherry! Then we used our rulers again to make straight lines for our double popsicles. This was such a delicious project!

School Bus
The students took out their rulers again to draw a school bus. This tied in with our unit on Community Helpers and Transportation. The class discussed the many different ways we can get to school. Many students ride on a school bus. We used our rulers to draw straight lines to make the basic shapes that make up a school bus!

Drawing People
The Kindergarten students faced their hardest challenge yet, and guess what? They blew it out of the water! Some of the hardest things to draw are people and the students did such an amazing job using their fine motor skills. The students learned how to put various shapes together to make up the human form. They drew both a boy and a girl and explored the many different ways to clothe and decorate their people. This was so much fun!

WOW!
Kindergarten practiced using finger spaces to create rows of small boxes around the word WOW. To color each row, we explored the crayons in our red cup like pinks, oranges, and reds. Then we used crayons from our green cup which included both different shades of green and yellow. The last row of boxes included crayons from our blue cup which consisted of purples and different hues of blue. Then to finish with a border, the students practiced their knowledge of shapes by drawing semi-circles, rectangles, triangles, and other fun various shapes!

The students created a "Top Secret" piece of artwork to be given as a special holiday gift for their families. During the month of December, the students worked hard putting all their skills and techniques to the test to create this magnificent piece of work which included; a dragon, cat, dog, mouse, vegetables, rocket ship, hearts, and flowers!
The Kindergarten students practiced their Project 64 skills of blending colors to create a rocket ship! They used their color blending knowledge to make life like flames shoot out of the rocket boosters. The students also practiced their math skills by drawing basic shapes like rectangles, triangles, and semi-circles to create this fun design!
In this picture we put together all the characters we have learned so far in Project 64. We then made a story about our picture. The dragon planted a garden and met two new friends, a dog and mouse. They lived happily together on an island while they harvested vegetables from their garden! To conclude our wonderful story, we wrote "The End" at the bottom of our paper.
In this picture Max is using proper pencil grip while drawing geometric shapes such as squares, semi-circles, and triangles. We also learned how to use a ruler. We discussed the numbers on the ruler, how to match end points, and how we could use the ruler to draw straight lines. Then we practiced using the colors we have learned so far to color in our geometric designs. We chose a color from each cup (color group) to fill in our shapes!
Tying into our fall theme of "harvest" we learned how to draw different types of vegetables like, radishes, onions, and carrots! We learned about shading and light as we drew our vegetables. We used lighter greens like "olive green" and "yellow green" to depict the sunlight shining on our leaves. We also used darker greens like "asparagus" and "forest green" to depict shadow, where the light does not shine on our leaves. Then we wrote a full sentence about our carrot!
As we continued our journey with Project 64, we explored several more colors like scarlet, orchid, apricot, and yellow green! Using proper pencil grip we drew a picture of a colorful dog and his dog bowl. To complete our picture we sounded out the decodable word "dog".
We began Project 64 by drawing a mouse and a pencil! We labeled our picture by sounding out the first letter for each picture. We learned how to follow step by step directions, how to properly hold a pencil, learned the names of some colors, and even learned to blend yellow and blue to make green!
