Sweet Addition
Kindergarten put their number knowledge to the test in the month of February. The students learned all about addition, putting two numbers together to get a greater number. The students learned the symbols used in addition as well as how to write a mathematical equation. In this activity the students were given a card with a picture of a type of sweet such as cookies, cupcakes, and candy! Then they had to find their partner with the matching sweet picture. The students added their numbers together and wrote their equation on board!

Six is the Magic Number
In the month of January the students learned about the wonderful science of ice crystals. We read the book The Story of Snow written by Mark Cassino. We learned that every snowflake begins with a hexagon at the center. Then from each of the six points, new crystals begin to grow! We created our own snowflakes using paper shapes to create an incredible snowflake design!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
The students put their cutting skills to the test to create these evergreen trees. The students cut strips of green paper in various sizes and put them in order from smallest to largest. Then to add the finishing touches, they added snowflakes. They used white paint and their fingertips to create a winter wonderland!

Run, Run, Run, as Fast as You Can!
In the month of December the students read and compared many different versions of the classic story The Gingerbread Man. We read The Gingerbread Boy, The Gingerbread Baby, The Gingerbread Girl, and even The Gingerbread Pirates! We used construction paper to make our own gingerbread people and houses to create a gingerbread village. Then we wrote sentences about our villages!
